Boroka Biro is a Bucharest based cinematographer, alumna of The National Film and Television School “I.L. Caragiale” with MA degree. She’s an alumna of Berlinale Talents 2021 and Sarajevo Talents 2017 and attended many international filmmaking workshops like Nisi Masa Workshops, Slow Film Super8 Workshop, Filmtett , international masterclasses like ASC Masterclass 2022, Imago Inspiration Masterclasses and Camerimage Festival. Recently she finished shooting a feature film directed by Bogdan Muresanu, Emergency Exit. She photographs mostly fiction movies, documentaries, commercials and music videos and open to performing art projects and video art as well. She started her career in the camera department during university, then shortly became a focus puller. Notable feature films as a focus puller: Sieranevada (Cristi Puiu), Touch Me Not (Adina Pintilie, Berlin Bear), Life and Nothing More (Antonio Mendez), Tokyo Vampire Hotel (Sion Sono), What Happened to Monday (Tomy Wirkola). She had the chance to focus pull on international commercials for cinematographers like Phedon Papamichael ASC, John Mathieson ASC, Kees von Oostrum, Barry Ackroyd BSC, Jakob Ihre, Simon Chaudoir, Justin Brown. Her camera work and lighting is focused on story, emotion and atmosphere, with great care for the narrative and the character. Every story needs a different approach and style in order to truly tune in with the meaning. She is passionate about film, analogue photography, travelling, performative and fine arts, observing people, light, atmosphere. |
